Findings 1900-1932

Assorted astrophysical findings, documenting my development and research process during the final years. Includes assorted material from the archives of the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH).

Hello dear. Let me just say, first:
It is a bit strange, talking to grandpa.
Many things have changed. Some are gone, maybe.
>
But he's still the same person. Because all he will eat for breakfast are his three eggs.
It's been the same for 20 years.
Do you mind going to fetch three eggs from downstairs?

I haven't seen you in a while. You're so busy with your star adventures.

Carrying the part back to the workshop feels unusually light under the clear night sky.
>
Am I forgetting something? Nevermind.
>
The machine is almost complete. Where did I leave my blueprint? I remember: In between moons. Next to Mars.

They say I'm far away. If only they knew.
>
The professors in Berlin will finally understand.
>
The two halves of the spherical body of the machine are already finished.
I have stored them near my old classroom.
I need to go check on the calibration process.

...Hello?
>
...buzz...
Yes, this is Fridolin Barth.
Enquire about Klaus Klemens
...buzz...
....Klaus Klemens...
I've successfully avoided talking about him for 20 years.
>
He was so talented...
...He was engrossed with his work at the observatory...
The last month I knew him, he barely spoke.
>
...I asked him to come home.......sleep...
...I used to come beg him to sleep every night or morning...
......But then I never saw him again....
...buzz...
>
...In some way he might still be around...
....But not in a way that I could understand...
Thank you. Where did you say you last saw him?
...he always used to be further down at the Eidgenössische Sternwarte in Zurich...
Image 34
Image 35
Would he recognize you? I don't know. Would you even recognize him?

Although he's fading quickly, yesterday he actually remembered you work at the University. Though he thought you were a doctor.
>
Image 41
He's very sick. But he's very proud of you.
Go visit
I am so surprised you came after all. You told me you were so busy.
Too bad you can't stay long. I'm sure he appreciated the visit, too.
>
Some things are gone, yes, but some remain.
Like a sickle of sun before it will be fully eclipsed at its highest point.
Image 40
I can feel the cosmos tremble. I am so close.
Study
You have delved deep into the secrets of your world.
You are trying to transcend mankind.
>
I know what you have been trying to achieve.
You are building a machine that will close the gap between you and the sky.
>
There is a piece that you're still missing.
You need to wait for the right moment, before the space closes.
When high above there is only a thin, bright sickle left of the white sun.
It's lonely out here.

Hello...?
Yes, I am Klaus...in a way.
I am of a different world.
I have fleeting memories of my old life.
>
Some people, some faces.
Faint voices, warm and familiar.
>
Frido, you say?
>
It rings a bell... A happy bell.
Maybe you will find my world too, one day.

Transient alignment. Instruments probably insufficient. Awaiting data from Berlin.

Still awaiting data from Berlin. As usual, relying on the diligence of others leads to disappointment. As usual, you take matters into your own hands.

The path forward is clear: An instrument to close the distance.
So far: Only a skeleton of a device, shaped somewhat like a mushroom, located in the industrial complex.

Thank you for the eggs.
Have I met you before? I don't remember you.
You're my grandchild? Ah, I see.
>
I don't understand much of what people say.
I think I am of a different world.
But you seem very interesting. Very smart.
>
And I like your voice. It's warm.
It was nice to see you.
I need to rest now

But it is not a star, more like a cloud of cosmic dust. The ancient greeks never knew.

The acceleration coils are spinning at an enormous speed.
>
I hope they reinforced the top screws.
>
The whole rooms is heating up.
>
Soon I'll know whether it was all worth it.
>
Then there will be no more gap between you and I.

Class of 1902. We had many ambitions. Each one of us was a fool.
>
In the summer of 1903, something happened. One of our colleagues went missing. His name was Klaus.
>
He was a strange man, but he was the best at drawing solar phenomena, an artist. And he had one friend, called Fridolin.
>
They seemed to be close.
>

The calibration process is complete. The construction is coming together.
>
Maybe I should write a letter to mother. I don't know when I will next have the opportunity to. She deserves to know.
>
But first: The production on the final part was completed. I got word this morning from A. Glutz & Co. way up north. I must go now!
